Der Grosse Aletschgletscher erstreckt sich über 23km vom Jungfraujoch bis hinunter zum Aletschwald.


A UNESCO World Heritage site is not only designated to fulfill it’s role of protecting the site, but also signifies a commitment of the 23 municipalities to develop the entire region in a sustainable way.

The foundation for the inscription in the WH list has been laid in 2001 with the signature of the Charter of Konkordiaplatz, which asks for an economically, social and ecologically balanced development of the World Heritage Region. The area and the all the diversity that comes with it has to be protected for the present and future generations.
