Der Grosse Aletschgletscher erstreckt sich über 23km vom Jungfraujoch bis hinunter zum Aletschwald.


The designation as UNESCO World Heritage site means not only the protection of the property, but signifies also a commitment of the 23 municipalities to develop the entire region in a sustainable way.

The foundation for the inscription in the WH list has been laid in 2001 with the signature of the Charter of Konkordiaplatz, which asks an economically, social and ecologically balanced development of the World Heritage Region. The area with its diversity has to be protected for the present and future generations.
