Management Strategy

The Management Strategy drawn up by the Association and approved by UNESCO in 2007 documents how the unique Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn World Heritage Site can be secured for the long term and how it can be used sustainably with the most benefit to the region. The Management Strategy is addressed to all circles - administrative bodies, the population, the economy and civil society - which are involved in and interested in protection and management of the World Heritage Site.

The Association has a binding obligation to initiate and coordinate the implementation process. At the centre of this effort are goals, measures and processes that will guarantee the security of this Alpine World Heritage Site and promote sustainable development of the economiy, society and nature in the World Heritage Region.

The Management Strategy is the result of a broadly supported process of negotiation and clarification in which originally very different expectations for the World Heritage Site were concretised, discussed, and classified in fields of activity. The Plan also serves as an instrument for patient resolution of conflicts and differences of interest, and for promotion of creative and innovative projects and initiatives within the World Heritage Site and the Region.
